What You Need to Bring
YOU! The most important thing to bring is your person and a positive and enthusiastic attitude. Learning to surf is easy if you are willing to work on balance, first on surf boards, then on those boards on the undulating ocean. No one is too young or too old to learn how to surf!
A swim suit of some sort. That’s all really. GIRLS: if you want to bring a more sporty top, or a surf shirt, those typically work better than bikini tops, unless you prefer surfing topless (not advisable).
Water shoes or booties (optional). Most of the beaches we surf on are fine white sand. There are, though, a few spots that have some small ocean rocks. If you are a finicky foot person, and you have some water shoes, go ahead and bring them along – if you end up using them, cool, if not, no worries.
Basic fitness. Surfing is indeed a sport. It requires a good deal of paddling and strength to pop up on boards…. all the while getting hit with waves and water etc…
You do not need to be in triathlete shape; you do, however, need to be in decent shape to be able to paddle, swim, and get in and out of the ocean.
